“Only accurate rifles are interesting”

Townsend Whelen

A life obsessed with precision and accuracy and a love of firearms led to the creation of Pewitt Precision. Garrett Pewitt has spent much of his life engaged in various aspects of shooting, predator hunting, reloading, wildcat cartridges, ballistic study, and the quest for tigher groups and better accuracy at varying ranges.

This desire for better performance and tighter groups led to the desire to build highly accurate custom rifles for not only himself but for others who enjoyed the art of rifle marksmanship and appreciated high precision work.

Garrett’s interest in manual machining and his drive to hold the tightest tolerances on the lathe and mill work hand in hand to produce rifles with chambers reamed to .0001″ of run out or less. Garrett’s quest for benchrest accuracy led him to seek out and receive instruction from Gordy Gritters of the Extreme Accuracy Institute / Gordy’s Precsion, who has built numerous National and World Championship winning rifles in multiple disciplines including benchrest, 1000 yard, and F-Class.

The skills learned from Gordy are applied by Garrett with the aim of building benchrest accuracy into every rifle regardless of its intended use, be that hunting, target, long distance, etc.

Garrett’s obsession with extreme accuracy and precision is applied to all work done in the shop, be that custom rifles, accurizing factory rifles, job-shop machining, laser engraving or any other tasks at hand.

Townsen Whelen famously said “only accurate rifles are interesting” and that is a mantra that Garrett fully believes in and holds himself to with every rifle he works on and every cartridge that he loads.

Growing up and living in small towns in Texas has taught Garrett that trust, honesty, communication, and the relationships that you build with people are the most important part of any transaction. Pewitt Precision doesn’t focus on gaining customers, but rather selectivly builds rifles for individuals who become friends throughout the process of designing, building, and shooting highly accurate rifles. There is no better way to determine what will help an shooter accomplish their goals than to sit and talk with them over a cup of coffee or a cold drink. It is only through these conversations between shooters that a a rifle tailored to your wants and needs can be designed.

Anyone can buy a cookie cutter rifle off the shelf that may or may not perform, often times left wishing for more. However, shooting a one of a kind custom rifle that is distinctly yours, built to the highest standards with your dreams and goals in mind, is a feeling like no other.
